Cholesterol

I had my cholesterol checked on Tuesday. The Chinook Health Region was offering free testing on the University of Lethbridge campus. I have wanted my cholesterol checked for a long time and i thought this was a great opportunity.

I never did find out what my cholesterol was. Anything below 3.2 mmol/L simply displayed as “Lo”, and mine displayed as “Lo”.

This was a great relief. I like butter, sour cream, meat and a bunch of other fatty. tasty things. I sit behind a desk all day. I have about 20-30 pounds of undeveloped muscle in front of me. Certainly, I thought it would be dangerously high.

Now I can sit back and take comfort in the fact that I won’t have a heart attack before I die of cancer.

  1. Yes, but you don’t eat high fat or junk foods very often. You eat healthy.

  2. It’s been awhile since I have read the litterature, but it seems to me that it is one of those genetic things. There are those who process fat and cholesterol well, and those who don’t. I want to say that there is like 10% (I’m too lazy to look it up) who will have high cholesterol regardless (i.e., unless you go for statins).

    So, be grateful for good genes.

  3. My genes are good when it comes tho cholesterol, but every male who has died on my mum’s side has died of cancer. At least in the last 20-30 years.

    However, you are right. Those administering the tests did say the most contributing factor to high cholesterol is a genetic predisposition. Inactivity and poor diet are next, but much less in importance.

  4. My uncle said onece that we like foods that are bad for us because they taste so good, and the foods are good for you we don’t care for as much. I think that’s so true.

    I like apples, ornages, pears, banana’s, and kiwi’s. But I don’t care for vegies as much although I like carrots, pork and beans, spinish, and corn and sometimes green beans.

  5. Not to digress, but there are good evolutionary reasons to like what we like. That is not to say that there are not cultural influences as well. But, if you are someone back in 6,000 BC, fruit are probably even a better source of calories than vegies.

  6. Now I can sit back and take comfort in the fact that I won’t have a heart attack before I die of cancer.That’s hilarious (in a sick sort of way)! That’s how I feel too, if one thing doesn’t get you, another is sure to.
