Brandon Flowers is Mormon

Turns out Brandon Flowers, lead singer for The Killers, is a Mormon. (Hat tip to the Times)

Spin once described you as an ex-Mormon. Is religion important in your life?

It?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s very important. I mean, it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s important in everyone?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s life. Basic religion is the reason we have morals. I am actually a Mormon, not an ex-Mormon. I occasionally drink and smoke, but I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m trying?¢‚Ǩ‚ÄùI?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m human.

Some people might say he would be a bad example for the youth or that he reflects badly on the Church. Personally, I say kudos to him for identifying with the Church. Not every popular entertainer does that. I wonder if KZION will pick this up.

Mr. Brightside on KZION? That’d be cool.

  1. I can’t beleive how much hate there is in the world.I am so sick of hearing people bad mouth others because of there faith. no one is perfect no matter what faith they belong to everyone has issues if we didn’t how would we learn. be open minded people. brandon i understand your strugles with the word of wisdom for I too have struggled with these same demons. stay strong.

I don’t think it is hate, it is judgment. I don’t have anything against Brandon Flowers either. We are all on a journey and well our own salvation is up to us and the Lord.

  3. i think its amazing that he didnt work around the question like other musicians and politicians for that matter. good for brandon

  4. ROCK ON !!!! Off to the KILLERS in New Zealand in a couple of weeks….should be a SICK concert

  5. Yeah, well I drink sometimes, occasionally use drugs, and I’ve slept with a lot of women, but I’m Mormon too, just trying you know. Do I get cred as well?

  6. Brandon Flowers in interviews (posted on the internet) and live on stage seem to be almost two different people. He seems the perfect Mormon gentleman offstage, even quite shy to be more accurate. On-stage just the opposite is true. It is like he is channeling Elvis, Donny Osmond, and Mick Jagger all at ounce. I have never heard of a rock star like that. Whatever… The Killers are the best value as far concerts go that I know of. Does anyone ever go to a Killers concert and not think they got their money’s worth???

  7. In response to John who said, “Its a well known fact that anyone who leaves the LDS church never does so quietly. People who leave the church always bad mouth it afterward in some manner. After all they have to make excuses and justification for their leaving.”

That isn’t accurate. I was LDS and went on a mission, attended the Temple in Utah very regularly, seminary graduate and went to Institute. I left pretty quietly. I told my friends and relatives in a private email that I was leaving and yeah they were sad but we still keep in touch. I have no ill will toward the LDS Church or its members and not everyone who leaves has a sinister past or some evil unforsaken sin. I left because I found a different church that I felt taught the truth.

Brandon is a good example in my view because he admits that he isn’t perfect. It is those who act perfect and fall that creates the “hypocrite” label. Brandon, by admitting that he isn’t perfect and that he is trying, is the kind of example I wish all youth had, LDS or not.
