House of the Lord

In our Gospel Doctrine lesson on the Word of Wisdom today, someone made a comment that made me reflect on some scriptures. The reflection brought an idea that I had never considered before.

BUT in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. (Micah 4:1; emphasis added)

And under this head ye are made free, and there is no other head whereby ye can be made free. There is no other name given whereby salvation cometh; therefore, I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ, all you that have entered into the covenant with God that ye should be obedient unto the end of your lives. (Mosiah 5:8; emphasis added)

What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1 Cor 6:19; emphasis added)

Until today, I had never really made the connection between these three scriptures.

When we are baptised we take upon ourselves Christ’s name. We are spiritually begotten of Him and He becomes our father. Our bodies are temples in which the Holy Ghost can dwell. The temples are known as the houses of the Lord. If our bodies are temples and we are the Lord’s, then our bodies are His houses as well. Through the Holy Spirit, He can dwell within us.
