Paramount Theatre

As predicted, the new company formed from the Cineplex Galaxy and Famous Players merger has sold off the Paramount Theatre in Lethbridge.

Empire Theatre, formerly based in Atlantic Canada and owned by the same company that owns the Canadian grocer Sobey’s, has acquired 27 theatres across Canada, including the Paramount Theatre in downtown Lethbridge.

With the acquisition, Empire Theatre is now the second largest movie theatre chain in Canada. Empire stated that it “will analyze each of the Cineplex theatres and figure out which ones need to be renovated or replaced with new cinemas”. This is good news for the Paramount, which has long been neglected by Famous Players and is rapidly becoming derelict.

Hopefully it will see popularity that once made it the movie theatre in Lethbridge.
