All Truth

Joseph F Smith once said the following:

“We believe in all truth, no matter to what subject it may refer. No sect or religious denomination in the world possesses a single principle of truth that we do not accept or that we will reject. We are willing to receive all truth, from whatever source it may come; for truth will stand, truth will endure. No man?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s faith, no man?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s religion, no religious organization in all the world, can ever rise above the truth” (Gospel Doctrine, 5th ed. [1939],1).

Is this true? Do Mormons really accept all truth no matter its source? Even if the source is critical of the Church?

  1. God is the author of All Truth. Satan is the author of All Lies.

Sometimes the truth is hard to listen to because it can be very critical of our mistakes and imperfections – regardless of whether as an individual or as a church.

The big challenge is to discern the difference between truths and lies that are disquised as truths.

  2. Then your question is whether all members of the Church follow the guidance of President Smith in accepting all truth. I don’t suppose they do, any more than all members of the Church follow any of the other counsels of the Prophets.

  3. “Then your question is whether all members of the Church follow the guidance of President Smith in accepting all truth.”

Or in other words, do Mormons really accept all truth no matter its source?

  4. Yes. But of course, it could have been construed as asking whether the Church accepts all truth no matter its source. When President Smith says “we” he refers to the Church, not to each and every member. Just as when Joseph Smith wrote “We believe” at the beginning of most of the Articles of Faith. He didn’t mean that every “Mormon” believes these things because some are less believing than others.

The answer is no. Even in this small group of people the truth and the source is rejected and belittled.

Here is an amazing truth – The pure Gospel of Jesus Christ can withstand any attack by any group. The reason for this is that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is Truth.

The rules and regulations made by men are where the problems begin. For example – some of the speaches made by early church leaders became doctrine and have turned out not to be accurate. These items are then changed over time to correct the mistakes. I am trying to be PC.

The Gospel was not wrong it was the man that was wrong. But because he was an Apostle or Prophet the mistake was accepted.

On the local level, mistakes are made and the truth is rejected by those in power.

The truth is the truth no matter where it comes from. Rejecting the truth is another matter.
