Would You Find Any of These Odd?

Would you find any of these odd or even uncomfortable? Why?

  • Saying a prayer through a podium microphone
  • Saying a prayer over the phone
  • Saying a prayer over IM
  • Saying a prayer in a chat room

Yep, these two, others would be fine of course, but these I would not feel comfortable doing, nor see the need to do so?

  1. * Saying a prayer through a podium microphone.

It’s done all the time. Have done it myself a few times.

    * Saying a prayer over the phone

Haven’t done it. But our area authority spoke at stake conf once saying he has family prayer with his wife over the phone when he’s traveling.

Yeah, those are kind of odd. I would make the chat/text a “meta discussion” or a “meta prayer”. By that I mean I would either suggest that they/we/me pray for such and such, or say I _would_ pray for such and such, kind of like a prayer outline, or planning list.

The scriptures contain many prayer snippets, and the Psalms are mostly prayers themselves. So I see no inherent problem in writing/typing prayers.

I’ve sometimes thought I should document some of my prayers so I can remember what I’m asking for, and so I can remember any promises I make.

Does anyone else make “deals” with God, promising we’ll do certain things if God gives us something we want?

  2. Have you made a “deal” with God and then God did what you wanted him to do? Would it have happened anyway?

  3. I don’t ‘make deals’ with God. Through covenants we already promise to give Him all, so what deal is left to make? Also, He always sets the terms, not me, and my job is to meet Him on His terms. To me, that is part of what faith and trusting Him is all about. Oh I ask for things but always with ‘nevertheless, thy will be done’ attached at the end, not always said, but acknowledged nonetheless.

  4. I would not find any of the proposed weird. I have done the first two many times, and would certainly do the last two.
