Sex Education

A sexually-explicit guide written in a way that condemns traditional North American values and promotes homosexuality and abortion to young girls learning about sex is being considered for use in public schools, and leaders at a family-values think tank are horrified.

“We have to find a way to stop this from happening,” Joseph Ben-Ami, the executive director of the Institute for Canadian Values, told WND. “People don’t know this is happening.”

The project is called, “The Little Black Book ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú A Book on Healthy Sexuality Written by Grrrls (sic) for Grrrls” and was assembled by a group including the St. Stephen’s House community service organization.

The Toronto project, now online after earlier published versions, is, according to Ben-Ami, “a thinly veiled propaganda piece that undermines healthy parent-child relationships, substitutes voodoo myths for actual science, and provides advice that, if followed, will certainly result in real and serious harm to those who follow it.”

For example, the guide states that “only 10% of the population is heterosexual ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú the rest being ‘mixed’ or bi-sexual,” but mentions no evidence. It also promotes homosexuality and labels parents “homophobes.”

The publishers give this summary of the book.

“A super-important guide for girls?¢‚Ǩ‚Äùwritten by teens for teens. Check it out: not just a book about sex, but a look at girl culture by teenagers. No stuffy school textbook. No nosy adults. Just a diverse group of teen girls from a community youth project who had questions about sexuality. To find answers, they collected stories, poetry and artwork from other youth. They also interviewed frontline health experts to get solid facts about the personalities and pressures that young women have to deal with. It’s a great mix of real-life examples and life-saving info. Topics include: – Relationships – Periods – Sex – Birth control – Pregnancy – Sexually transmitted infections/AIDS – Sexual assault All the content has been vetted by doctors, and the book is endorsed by health professionals — so girls know they’re getting good info. There’s also a section at the back with places to contact to find out more. It’s all stuff that youth need to know, and it’s all decked out in a compact, easy-to-browse zine style. The Little Black Book for Girlz is an important, take-anywhere empowerment guide. Girls shouldn’t leave their teen years without it.”

THE INSTITUTE FOR CANADIAN VALUES HAS STARTED A PETITION TO GET THIS BOOK BANNED FROM OUR SCHOOLS, BUT WITH FUNDING FROM 3 LEVELS OF GOV?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢T THEIR CHANCES ARE SLIM.

This is some of their comment regarding this book:

“The Little Black Book” is being promoted across Canada as a guide to healthy sexuality for teenage girls. In reality, it is a dangerous, unscientific and offensive piece ideological propaganda.

Among the books more egregious assertions:

  • “A lot of parents are homophobic, and so are their children – until they get minds of their own.”
  • “If you need a figure to represent God The Holiness then for me she?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s a fat, black dyke.”
  • Only 10% of the population are heterosexual while 10% are homosexual, the remaining 80% are bi-sexual.

It gets worse.

What are your thoughts on this? Does this reflect a further intrusion on the sanctity of the family by those who only wanted ?¢‚ǨÀúequal rights?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ in marriage? When they say that this book has been vetted by health professionals and doctors, who are they, and what is their agenda?

  1. Steve, I’m sorry you disagree with the Church’s leaders and dismiss bishops who try to carry our their Priesthood duties as “sick.” But once again, I wonder—why do you continue to associate yourself with a church that is so “sick”?

  2. Itbugaf,
To my knowledge, Bishops no longer have these inappropriate conversations with minors, some sick ones may, but most don’t. All my kids are asked if they keep the LofC, period. We teach our kids that mastrbation is normal and healthy and should only be a concern if it becomes obsessive such that it interferes with all the other things going on in their lives. The church continuously improves. Get over it.

You have the prerogative to teach your children what you will, but keep in mind that not everyone agrees with your point of view, and you could be wrong in your assumption that masturbation is ok. I personally don’t agree with that and will not teach my children that it is ok. Although I have never been asked about it in any interview, I don’t believe it fits in with the law of Chastity (as far as being ok). But that’s my belief.

  4. Nor is it the Church’s belief. It’s not the belief of the prophets and apostles who approve the Church curriculum quoted above in comment #35 (nor that of the Prophet, Spencer W. Kimball, who very plainly identified this as sinful behavior).

You’re free to hold your views. You’re free to libel Spencer W. Kimball as a “masturphobe” as you put it. You’re free to malign bishops and stake presidents who try to teach your children important principles of chastity as “sick” and having “inappropriate conversations with minors.” You’re free to slander every Priesthood leader you disagree with as a false prophet, or a pedophile, or whatever other accusation you care to come up with. You’re also free to believe, if you like, that masturbation has nothing to do with the Law of Chastity.

But you should not pretend that you’re on the same side of this issue as the Church or its Prophets.

You tell me to “get over it.” What is it you want me to “get over”?

  5. For the benefit of anyone who may be reading, here’s another resource:

“Any sexual intimacy outside of the bonds of marriage—I mean any intentional contact with the sacred, private parts of another’s body, with or without clothing—is a sin and is forbidden by God. It is also a transgression to intentionally stimulate these emotions within your own body.”—Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve, “Serious Questions, Serious Answers,” The New Era, October 1995.

  6. Since the “CHURCH” changes its doctrines often, stick with something non changing and prove your points using the Standard Works. I forgot for a moment the Standard Works get changed also.

Just remember this GA’s are often old and we all know how sexual old men are. I don’t get it and neither should you. pun inteded.

Can you show some true evidence where the Church has actually changed doctrine? And I don’t mean tradition, or policy, but ACTUAL doctrine? And do not malign the Brethren in that way. I will not tolerate such speaking of our leaders. You are free to believe what you will, but do not make jokes about them in such a manner, on this blog.

  8. The point I don’t understand, in light of comments such as #56, is why Bill insists that he must not be called “apostate.”

  9. Wow Bill/George I am sorry you are so unhappy but really WHAT is your agenda here?

You know your request is impossible using your terms. Anything Church Leaders have preached from the pulpit as doctrine and later dennounced due to PC reasons, you call traditions.

Define what you will consider doctrine.

There you go again making stuff up.

Do you keep a journal of all your stories to keep them straight?

I once worked for a habitual liar.

  11. Bill, I’m NOT making stuff up: You said, in comment #15 of the “Elders & High Priests” thread, the following:

“I expect many of you who will read this blog expect that I am an apostate. But Im not…”

You tell us you’re not an apostate. But at the same time you spend almost every comment you make here campaigning against the Church and its leaders (when you’re not spending them on baseless and vile attacks against my personal character).

  12. I am really impressed that school boy would go back several months to find something on a closed thread to use.

Try finding something with the name George instead of Bill.

School Boy also said “baseless and vile attacks against my personal character in the previous posting. I say prove your point without making stuff up.

  13. “George”—even you have admitted that you are Bill. Everyone already knows you are Bill. Please stop this degrading charade.

  14. I see from your posting that you cannot prove the stories you continue to embellish. Why don’t you try telling the truth?

  15. i am 100% against sex education for our schools, sex education needs to be removed from all our public schools because it has a bad affect on students

sex education has a high increase rate on homsexuality, STDS rates and teen promiscuitys in our schools. Sex education has not been proven to work, it undermines the values of an education for students to set goals for the future

  16. People like you, sean, are the reason we need sex education available in our schools (public and private).

If you are going to make outrageous claims, as you are so prone to do, please be kind enough to cite the studies to which you refer.

Lacking that courtesy, I will assume that you are just making things up to support your argument.

  17. He makes things up because he seems to be overly obsessed with sex and with breastfeeding. It’s very strange for someone of his age to be so obsessed with breastfeeding.

Actually Rick people can waite to have sex after marraiges to procreate because thats what sex is meant for. These school board members are a bunch of communist sex perverts for dictating to many teachers out there to teach these stuff to our students which is sick. Our schools can abandond God, our schools can abandoned Schools holidays like Xmas, the plegde of allegience and Thanksgiving but not sex education. I find this to be quite hyprocritcle from the secular progressors who have control of our school systems to indoctrinate students the wrong way of thinking that sex comes first before God and the history of this country. Teaching students math, history, sceince, english , reading and writing are the requirements to set goals for students to get into a good college and a good job, not teaching kids about sex and condoms

  19. “people can waite to have sex after marraiges to procreate because thats what sex is meant for.”

I feel sorry for your future wife.

  20. “Teaching students math, history, sceince, english , reading and writing are the requirements to set goals for students to get into a good college and a good job”

Yes, and teaching kids about sex allows them to complete that college education without an unplanned pregnancy.

…and by the way, I can not recall any portion on the Communist Manifesto that requires Sex Ed.

Actullly Rick, sex education should be taught between the parents and the kids. The state has no rights to interfere on the students academics by imposing there sexual perverted values on others. I never once took sex education in school and even i understand the whole concept of having sex and to be protected. These unprofessional socialist anti-God school board members allow these overpaid school teachers to hand out condoms to innocent 12-13 year old kids like there candy. This is down right sick and down right perverted, which is why we have a higher rate of teen pregnancys in our schools because this kind of teachings is encouraging students to go out and have sex
