  1. As far as the article goes, I certainly wouldn’t ratify that particular marriage act. It is incomplete with far too many holes in it. There was no way it would have been passed. But to turn around and threaten “[those] conservatives… with their own ‘medicine’,” by instituting a law that says you need to procreate within three years of your marriage or have your marriage annulled seems, to me, a rather harsh response.

So many things in the world today are twisted. In the name of United States freedom, so many of the majority’s rights are “on trial,” so-to-speak, to make sure that we don’t offend the minority. It has been proposed that the words “under God” are taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance to be sure that the Atheists (the minority) are not offended and also to ensure a complete separation of church and state. My thought is: if the Atheists’ don’t believe in God, or any sort of deity, then why is it a big deal to them? Those who believe in God can say “one nation, under God,” and be pleased with it. Those who don’t believe in God can say “one nation… indivisible…” Why does it matter so much?

I have the same feelings about same-sex marriage in America. Why do you think it matters so much?

  2. Wow – No kids in 3 years and the state offers you a divorce for free.

I guess if it passes, the Church will have lots of courts to punish the members for living in sin (lawfully and legally married bit) if there are no kids in 3 years and they have sex after 36 months of marraige since it would become a shack up.

New (younger) wife every 3 years. What a deal. Trophy Brides for every man with no long term commitment.

    Just a joke Sally.

  3. “I certainly wouldn’t ratify that particular marriage act”

    Ummm… that’s precisely the point.
If it’s ratified it’s obviously ridiculous, if not it proves the point they’re trying to make.

    It’s win-win.

“Why do you think it matters so much?”

I have no idea why some of America is so fixated on eliminating same-sex marriage. I secretly suspect that it’s a diversionary tactic to keep people from thinking about Iraq…

  4. “I have the same feelings about same-sex marriage in America. Why do you think it matters so much?”

Sort of reiterating what Rick said: if the marriage issue doesn’t matter than this law could and should be passed.

Because this law would never pass, those interested in making marrage available to partners in same sex relationships make their point.

That’s why it matters so much.

  5. I don’t get the joke George. I didn’t even post a message on this thread.. what am I missing?

  6. “I have no idea why some of America is so fixated on eliminating same-sex marriage. I secretly suspect that it’s a diversionary tactic to keep people from thinking about Iraq…”

Don’t quite comprehend that particular correlation.

  7. “Because this law would never pass, those interested in making marriage available to partners in same sex relationships make their point.

Call me daft, Jeff, but I’m not sure I follow you.

  8. What if you had a kid with someone you automatically were married.

And I can tell you, if they are talking about same sex marriage to divert people from the war in Iraq, its not working, I hear more about Iraq than anything.

I can’t wait for 10 years to pass to see if Canada is destroyed for legalizing same-sex marriage and US isn’t for denying it- my bet? It will be the other way around and the democrats would gloat except that it won’t matter since the whole world will be sinking due to global warming.

  9. Have you factored in the upcoming war with Iran?

mere said: What if you had a kid with someone you automatically were married.

It sure would cut down on one night stands.

  10. There’s something I don’t like about the title of this thread in the context of lesbians marrying…

  11. “Don’t quite comprehend that particular correlation.”

Nor do I … I blame the US government.

“It sure would cut down on one night stands.”

Or triple the sales of morning after pills.

“I can’t wait for 10 years to pass to see if Canada is destroyed for legalizing same-sex marriage and US isn’t for denying it”

Nor can I. I’d be impressed if either of our countries is ‘destroyed’ in only ten years.

    ltbugaf, gut|mind|ter :P

  12. Sam,

I am certainly not an Atheist. I’m about as believeing a Mormon as they come. I am offended by the phrase “under God” in the Pledge.

I don’t think your theory holds any water.

  13. Thanks so much for this dude! I’m definitely going to think about this and I only have one question… What in the world is going on in people’s heads nowadays?
