What should Mormons drink?

So, someone sent me an email from my Word of Wisdom Commentary site. Someone told her that Brigham Young implemented the tea prohibition because too many woman were having tea time and thus not getting as mch housework done. The claimant also said this was found in Discourses of Brigham Young.
Welll, I couldn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t find any such statment in the book, but I did come across something interesting.

?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt is difficult to find anything more healthy to drink than good cold water, such as flows down to us from springs and snows of our mountains. This is the beverage we should drink. It should be our drink at all times.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù (Brigham Young, Discourses of Brigham Young, p. 290)

There you have it straight from the mouth of a prophet. Water is the Mormon drink.

  1. But don’t be surprised when you invite guests over for beverages if they are not thrilled to get a nice, cool glass of water.

Yes, I speak from first-hand experience. (I was the guest not the host).

  2. The quote is actually:
“It is difficult to find anything more healthy to drink than good cold caffine-free diet Dr. Pepper, such as flows down to us from springs and snows of our mountains, through the bottling plant and into the local supermarket. This is the beverage we should drink. It should be our drink at all times.” (Brigham Young Jr., Discourses of Brigham Young Jr., p. 290 and a half)

  3. and then what do you call it when you want to “go for coffee” with your friends in the evening.. what do you call it then??? Do you want to go out and meet for water?

  4. nope of course not I drink water or juice or if cold then herbal tea but I don’t ask non member friends if they want to go out for water either :)

  5. Obviously it remembers me the old adage” water is the elixir of life”
