Solution to Canada?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s economic woes

Received this today via email.

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Canada’s economy. Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks and car companies, that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan:

There are about 20 million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

  1. They must retire. Twenty million job openings. Unemployment fixed.
  2. They must buy a new Canadian car. Twenty million cars ordered. Auto industry fixed.
  3. They must either buy a house or pay off their mortgage. Housing crisis fixed.
  4. They must send their kids to school/college/university. Crime rate fixed.
  5. Buy $50 of alcohol/tobacco/gas a week. There?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s your money back in duty, tax, etc.

It can?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and second home allowances.

  1. That is the BEST economic recovery plan that I’ve heard!

Don’t you realize how that would stimulate the economy. Everyone will be better off if we decided not to loan out our dollars to greedy, ignorant banks and place it in the hands of the avg. citizen.

  2. I decided to attempt the mathmatics and I will have to retrace my words. This will be impossible to do because you will need ALOT of money to do this. You will have to have about 20 trillion in available money to do this.

  3. Because 20,000,000 people times $1,000,000 each equals $20,000,000,000,000. That is a 2 with 13 zeros after it, or 20 trillion dollars.

    Is that not correct?

  4. uh, Canadian cars? I didn’t know there was a Canadian car company.

Seems like buying Canadian-made American or Japanese cars won’t keep American car companies from reorganizing factories out of Canada.

Are there really 20 Million workers over 50 in Canada? I thought the population of Canada was 33 million.

Is this the source of the chain email, Britain?

  5. I believe they meant a car built in Canada.

Indeed that does appear to be the original source.

You bring p a good point about the number of workers over 50. It’s definitely under 20 million since there are 6,870,700 over the age of 45.[1]

That would still be $6,870,700,000,000—more than we’ve spent so far.
