A belief in hierarchical (rather than egalitarian) gender roles corresponded to a belief that no rape had taken place. That is, people who believed in hierarchical gender roles (men in charge, women in the home) were more likely to say that there was no rape. And the effect was greatest among women. That is, women who believed in hierarchical gender roles were especially inclined to view the acts as non-rape.
