President Monson Announces New Temple in Payson, Utah

A new temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is to be built in Payson, Utah, it was announced today by Church President Thomas S. Monson.

The new temple will help meet the needs of a growing Church membership in the area and will ease the heavy use of the Provo temple, which is one of the busiest in the Church. The Payson temple will bring to 15 the number of operating and announced temples in Utah.

  1. I really love seeing these small LDS communiies getting temple of their own. I think that it build a sense of ownwership when it comes to temples.

    1. I agree. I really like how nearby communities claim ownership on these temples as well.

The Cardston temple isn’t in Lethbridge, of course, but I still claim it as mine.

  2. With in-laws living in Payson, I can tell you that you are exactly right, Chris. They feel that the Provo temple is, in a sense, too “big,” with the university plus the MTC plus the community surrounding it, to have that small-town feel.

My wife and I are living in Detroit, and they have the smaller temple as well. She loves the quaint feel of it, and I think Payson will have that same effect.
