Zelophehad’s Daughters | Why I Do Want to Believe in Heavenly Mother

I find the Proclamation on the Family both heartening in its acknowledgment of heavenly parents, but also discouraging in its comment that we worshiped God as our Eternal Father—leaving Heavenly Mother, once again, invisible. It reminds me of Orson Pratt’s view that we should not worship Heavenly Mother, because the Father is the head of his divine household, and the concerns people inevitably raise about “goddess worship,” as if it were inherently problematic in a way that “god worship” is not. Why would it be dangerous to worship a female divine figure, but praiseworthy to worship a male one?

  1. Let me begin by saying I have no ideas why we do not worship a female deity. However if things in Heaven are like earth the Priesthood face of organization is a man. It seems to be the role of males to act in priesthood function.

Why don’t women have this role? I don’t know. But I don’t know why women would envy men’s holding the priesthood. If you equate priesthood power as and ability to promote your agenda the you don’t get D&C 121. The priesthood is about putting your agenda aside and replacing it with Gods. Women exhibit similar selflessness in motherhood.

That said… men and women are different… and men and women can not achieve exaltation independently. Neither sex or sex role is superior.

Sadly, much of our practice here on earth has been unfair to women. I don’t think most earthly practices will continue in heaven.
