God reserves a unique place for us

While reading through a new addition on the newsroom at LDS.ORG on how Mormons view the world (props to DMI), something stuck out to me.

the choices made in this life determine one?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s station and activity in the eternities, where God reserves a unique place for all of his children.

A unique place? That makes it seem as if there are more than three places prepared for the eternities. Is this article suggesting that the post-Judgement life isn’t spent in one of three kingdoms? Could it be that the kingdoms aren’t concrete, that their borders are blurred?

  1. And the glory of the telestial is one, even as the glory of the stars is one; for as one star differs from another star in glory, even so differs one from another in glory in the telestial world;

    D&C 76:98

    A literal reading of this would suggest that there are as many kingdoms as their are people, at least for the telestial.

  2. why can’t there be three glories that each are unique? Does there have to be a specific larger quantity to have unique attached to it? He says for all his children not a different one for each child.

  3. The question isn’t whether there can be three kingdoms, but whether there are three kingdoms. Sure three can be considered unique. I think the only number that can’t be is one. But is one of three kingdoms unique enough for the tens of billions of people who have ever come to earth?

  4. I always took it for granted that within each of the three kingdoms there were multiple degrees based on earth life performance & experience. I don’t know about a blur between kingdoms, but probably more likely between these finer degrees. I also like to think (Gospel According to Dave)that there’s a certain customization provided for each child. Like a mini cooler in the recliner and HDTV.

  5. “Like a mini cooler in the recliner and HDTV.”

    This does not sound like a scenario that would also be considered heaven by one’s better half… ;)

  6. I’ll take the pay raise and recliner on Sunday morning now, thank you. =)
